This study mapped how protein–protein interactions drive liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) of PSD-95, the master scaffold of the neuronal postsynaptic density, identifying the minimal Stargazin (TARP-γ2) peptide that induces LLPS and showing that PSD-95 inhibitors can also promote it. Flow Induced Dispersion Analysis (FIDA) was used in a supporting role to measure the hydrodynamic radius of PSD-95 with and without Stargazin peptides, with complexes appearing larger than PSD-95 alone. It is an example of using FIDA to measure protein complex size in solution.
