Changing the game of amyloid fibril and protein condensate research with FIDA
Einar Halldórsson; Emil G. P. V. Stender, Ph.D.
This Fidabio poster demonstrates how Flow Induced Dispersion Analysis (FIDA) was used to characterise amyloid fibril formation, growth kinetics and antibody binding, along with biomolecular condensate size, concentration and phase behaviour, mainly in α-synuclein systems relevant to neurodegenerative disease. Using the FIDA-based methods MTIS, Capflex and TDIPS, researchers measured fibril hydrodynamic radius and length, monitored growth and inhibition, determined antibody binding affinity to fibrils, and recorded condensate phase diagrams — all label-free and from nanolitres of sample. It is an example of using FIDA to quantitatively characterise amyloid fibrils and biomolecular condensates.
