Can amyloid fibrils in blood be used to detect Parkinson's early? In this Fidabio webinar, the startup Neurotidal Diagnostics shows how Flow Induced Dispersion Analysis (FIDA) turns amyloid-fibril length into a biomarker for neurodegenerative disease. Combining a fibril-specific fluorescent label (FibroPaint) with FIDA, the team measures the hydrodynamic size of amyloid fibrils — α-synuclein in Parkinson's and tau in Alzheimer's — directly in patient blood and spinal fluid from about 10 microlitres, with no sample workup, detecting fibrils as short as five layers and using fibril length rather than concentration to stage disease. It is an example of using FIDA to measure amyloid-fibril size for early detection and disease monitoring.
