Exploring Drug Interactions: A Sneak Peek with FIDA
Revati Kulkarni, Jimmi Gabrielsen, Rita Wulff Rasmussen, Jesper Østergaard
This poster from the Department of Pharmacy, University of Copenhagen, demonstrates how Flow Induced Dispersion Analysis (FIDA) was used to characterise a range of drug interactions in solution — small-molecule binding to cyclodextrins, drug binding to human serum albumin across temperatures, and drug partitioning into surfactant micelles. FIDA ranked drug–cyclodextrin affinities (warfarin > terbutaline > epinephrine), measured temperature-dependent fluorescein–albumin binding, and sized polysorbate-80 micelles (4.2–5.0 nm) in agreement with NMR. It is an example of using FIDA to characterise small-molecule binding and formulation interactions in solution.
