PDB Correlator Linking Structure and Function

This Fidabio poster demonstrates how Flow Induced Dispersion Analysis (FIDA), on a Fida 1 instrument, was used to measure the in-solution hydrodynamic radius (Rh) of label-free proteins — β-lactoglobulin, human and bovine serum albumin, and lysozyme — from their intrinsic fluorescence. The FIDA-measured radii matched values predicted from PDB crystal, cryo-EM and AlphaFold structures to within 9%, and revealed that β-lactoglobulin behaves as a homodimer in solution rather than a monomer. It is an example of using FIDA to link protein structure to in-solution behaviour for structural and functional characterisation.
